I will be honest, I always liked the concept behind Fiverr.com.
Only a couple of clicks and a client can place an order using a freelancer according to a particular set of deliverables.
Easy peasy, right? Sure, but it comes at a cost. A significant one.
That is just one the few freelance platforms in which buyers are given free reign to abuse, threaten and blackmail vendors any way they like.
In this informative article, I'd like to share a recent bad experience as a seller on Fiverr, also I chose to give up on the stage altogether.
While I've been utilizing Fiverr myself (off and on ) for a little while, this particular experience relates to my girlfriend's account, not my own.
(I've been guiding her building a reputable accounts, and the way to go beyond and above with every last order. Everything mentioned is her doing, I'm just an observer.)
In this case, she'd just gotten another $5 sequence on her logo gig, which seemed to be just like another... or so we thought.
The order was fulfilled in great time, and my girlfriend had even included a bonus emblem concept as well as the source file (which is usually a part of the more expensive package).
The client"loved" one of those concepts and so we proceeded to send her the appropriates record sizes, as mentioned in the gig description.
The client came back requesting a social networking kit to decide on the logo, something that is obviously not available as part of her gig.
Against my advice, my buddy chose to deliver the additional work, although not getting paid any extra for this.
After that, the customer responded with more demands and a few modifications to the social networking files.
At this point, she consented enough was enough.
Despite every effort to please this person, they have been clearly overstepping their bounds here.
This is when the client went from only overstepping bounds to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of carrying my girlfriend's Fiverr standing hostage.)
While she took a while to ponder a response and reach to Fiverr service for assistance, the customer did finally go ahead and leave a 1 star review.
Presumably this is to demonstrate her he/she was It's a fiverr - Review of Ernesto, Tel Aviv, Israel - TripAdvisor not kidding.
Shortly after, while waiting on Fiverr's answer to the service query, the client paid an additional $10 for the social media kit.
Needless to say, the payment has been accompanied by yet another danger.
At this point, all I wished to do was go all Liam Neeson and seek this person down so that I could repeatedly punch them in the face.
However, at the moment, I still had hope that Fiverr support could step in and rescue my girlfriend from this PITA client.
After the answer came back from Fiverr service, they told that they could Fiverr User Reviews, Pricing & Popular Alternatives - Fit Small Business not induce the buyer to take the purchase.
Okay, that's reasonable enough. (though the purchaser accepted it, technically.)
In addition they suggested drawing up a list for the purchaser to demonstrate the job was done in accordance to the gig requirements.
My girlfriend hauled in her initial email the client was trying to extort her to get free work outside the agreed conditions, by making a negative review if she didn't comply.
Needless to say, it wasn't about the job, it was about seeking protection in an abusive customer who was blatantly pushing his luck.
Their answer didn't give us any assurance that Fiverr actually understood that, and even in this point we felt as though they didn't need to get involved.
At exactly the exact same time, she responded to the buyers latest danger, explaining that she would not continue to operate together unless the comments has been changed/removed.
(Again, this will be comments that has been obviously and intentionally made to bully her to providing function outside the agreed conditions .)
A fair petition by anyones standards, right?
Rather than acknowledge what the purchaser had completed until this point, Fiverr immediately turned the tables on my girlfriend.
Turns out, she was the only breaking all the rules.
Because she'd asked the client to change their opinions, she was no longer entitled to some assistance from Fiverr assistance.
You can imagine how we felt studying this.
What the purchaser had done and said before her last message has been now being swept under the rug -- like never happened in any respect.
Fiverr basically decided to support a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend using a permanent stain in an accounts she had worked so difficult to accumulate.
And believe me, there are loads of buyers doing exactly this on Fiverr, knowing they can and will get away with it.
Well, as most of this was happening, I did some investigating to see whether any other sellers went through a similar ordeal with an individual buyer.
Very quickly, I discovered a variety of almost equal cases about the Fiverr forum obsolete years back. (that's right, years.)
This is obviously something that's been happening for quite a while and it all stems from giving buyers too much power over sellers.
If there's 1 thing I've learned about Fiverr, it is that clients are ALWAYS more valued than freelancers.
Regardless of how much time that you put into a job, or just how hard you worked on it, or perhaps how well you managed communication in a dispute, as it really comes down to it... freelancers have little to no security.
Even when it's a very clear cut situation in your favor, there is still every chance the client will come out on top. It takes it one little thing you"did wrong" in accordance with their own terms of service and EVERYTHING else is ignored Find Out More
Looking at the evidence, it's clear to me that Fiverr is well aware of what's going on, yet remains eager to sit back and let it happen.
If you're a decision maker in Fiverr and you are reading this, I implore you to seriously reevaluate your existing support procedures for freelancers.
It is not right that someone can put all that time and effort into building up an account and over-delivering at every possible chance, just to be taken down from the very people you rely on to protect you.
Look, I do not need to abandon Fiverr. I don't need to be telling folks to prevent your system.
But after everything that's happened, you have not left me any choice.
Until something is done in order to guard freelancers from this sort of abuse, I will continue to propagate this post and do whatever I can to prevent others from falling victim to your one-sided support team.
The next you truly do something about this and also give freelancers a way to fight back, I'll be more than happy to update this post.
